Surrey International Institute (SII) of Dongbei University of Finance and Economics was established in August 2007 with the approval of the Ministry of Education of China through a partnership between Dongbei University of Finance and Economics and the University of Surrey, UK. As one of the earliest Sino-foreign cooperative education institutions in China and the first Sino-foreign cooperative education institution in Northeast China qualified to confer degrees from both China and the United Kingdom, SII offers four undergraduate programmes, namely Accounting and Finance, Business Management with Business Analytics, International Business Management, and International Tourism Management. Our educational provision spans undergraduate, postgraduate and international doctoral education. SII is housed in Lijin Building, an independent academic complex covering an area of over 7,700 square metres, complemented by a library and smart classrooms. We currently have more than 1,400 enrolled students and over 80 Chinese and international faculty and staff members.

With “Engage-globally, Debate-critically, Discover-creatively” as our motto, we adhere to the mission of attaching equal importance to humanistic spirit and professional competence, cultivating outstanding financial and economic professionals rooted in China, equipped with a global vision and international competitiveness, and providing intellectual support for corporate management practice. SII has been firmly focusing on the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, continuously exploring new paths for integrated development, and has achieved good results in talent cultivation, faculty development, academic research and social services.

In 2014, SII initiated the establishment of the Deans’ Association of Chinese-foreign Cooperation, with the secretariat located in SII. As the first Chinese-foreign cooperative education institution in China, SII has successfully passed various evaluations by the Ministry of Education. SII’s recognition and awards include the “TOP 20 Excellent Cases of Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education Institutions in 2024” and “Outstanding Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education Institution in 2025”.
