In March 2025
the foreign doctoral degree education programme and the bachelor of Business Management with Business Analytics were approved by the Ministry of Education of China.
In May 2024
SII was awarded “TOP 20 Excellent Cases of Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education Institutions in 2024”.
In July 2023
the two universities completed the “Amended and Restated Agreement to Establish a Sino-Foreign Cooperative School between University of Surrey and Dongbei University of Finance and Economics”. The agreement is valid for 20 years from the date of signing.

leader of Liaoning Provincial People’s Government visited SII to investigate the development of Chinese-foreign cooperative education.
In January 2022
SII’s “Six-Dimensional Peer Education Model” was included in the list of construction projects of the “Three-Complete Education” comprehensive reform demonstration projects in Liaoning Province’s universities, and won the second prize of the Liaoning Provincial Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award (Undergraduate).

SII won three championships at the 46th Track and Field Sports Meeting of DUFE: the total score of the women’s group, the total score of the men’s group, and the total score of the men’s and women’s groups in the student group.

SII initiated the establishment of the Deans’ Association of Chinese-foreign Cooperation, with the secretariat located in SII.

SII passed the on-site evaluation of the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA).
In July 2011
the first cohort of SII undergraduate students graduated successfully. In July 2011, the employment rate of the first cohort of undergraduate graduates reached 95.62%.

SII’s dual-degree programmes of Business Management and Tourism Management obtained AACSB accreditation, and SII passed the evaluation of Sino-foreign cooperative education organized by the Ministry of Education of China.

SII initiated the establishment of the International Education Centre of DUFE.
In August 2007
the Ministry of Education of China officially approved the establishment of Surrey International Institute (SII), DUFE. In September, SII welcomed 156 first year students.
In September 2006
DUFE and Surrey officially signed the “Cooperative Agreement on the Establishment of a Sino-Foreign Cooperative School between Dongbei University of Finance and Economics and University of Surrey”.
In 2002
DUFE and Surrey added a “2+2” student exchange programme for bachelor of High-Tech Enterprise Management.
In 2001
Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (DUFE) and the University of Surrey (Surrey) established a “2+2” student exchange programme for bachelor of Tourism and Hotel Management.
